Edge of Darkness (1985)
I finished watching this outstanding TV mini-series today and it absolutely blew me away. Its an intense, suspenseful, emotional political thriller that is dominated by the central and extraordinary performance of Bob Peck, who plays Detective Ronald Craven, the father of an activist daughter who is brutally murdered. While suffering devastating grief, but with steely resolve, he begins to uncover a far deeper and more sinister side to his daughters life and murder, which could extend to the highest levels of power.
Its poignant, meaningful and exciting and despite being removed from its cold war context, it still has great staying power for the modern viewer as well as lessons to be learned. Peck carries the series on his very capable shoulders with charismatic supporting cast lead by Joe Don Baker and Joanne Whalley. If you have the time or the interest I would definitely recommend checking it out.
